How to Create or Claim Your Google Business Listing

Nothing happens with Local SEO until you have a Google Business Listing. This allows you to get found locally in the “map pack” from people in the same geographical location.

This may sound obvious, but if you have a business either with a physical location orĀ serves a certain locality, you need a Google Business listing.

Don’t worry, it’s easy.

You first have to determine if there’s already one created for your business.

First off, head to Google My Business website on Desktop and click the link that says “start now”.

Type in the name of your business in the search box. This will pull up any similar listings so you can determine if it’s already created.


If it’s on the list, click it to continue. If not, you can add the details.

Verify it

After you’ve added the business details, you can access the page. However, you’ll still need to verify it through a postcard to your address. Usually these arrive at the business within about 5 days. Simply punch in the code and you’re good to go.

Next, you’ll need to select categories and fill out your listing 100%.
